Overview

Motorcycles and ATVs require high strength-to-weight ratio, impact resistance and vibration damping. Aluminum castings replace traditional steel or iron parts, significantly reducing unsprung mass and improving fuel economy and handling.

Typical parts include engine cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, intake manifolds, crankcases, left/right crankcase covers, clutch housings, water pump housings, wheel hubs, handlebar clamps, footrest brackets and shock-absorber lower tubes. A356 or ZL104 are often gravity or low-pressure cast, then T6 heat-treated to achieve UTS >280 MPa with elongation 5–8%.
